Huck Decides to Free Jim

Throughout the novel Huck thought of Jim as being inferior to him. This was because society taught him to believe that people like Jim were inferior to people like Huck. By the climax of the novel, which can be found on pages 160-162, Huck decided that he would go against what society has told him and respects Jim, treating him as a friend and an equal.

After writing the letter to Ms. Watson Huck said : "All right, then, I'll go to hell" (pg 162) Then he tore it up which characterized Huck as a changed person.
